PM Modi on Article 370

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has applauded the Supreme Court’s recent decision affirming the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. In a blog post on Tuesday, Modi asserted that the court’s ruling upheld India’s sovereignty and integrity, emphasizing that the government’s move in 2019 aimed at constitutional integration, not disintegration. The court’s five-judge bench unanimously validated the abrogation, asserting the temporary nature of Article 370. Modi highlighted the historical obstacles posed by Articles 370 and 35(A), stating they created a divide between Jammu and Kashmir residents and the rest of India. He emphasized the government’s focus on development and interaction with citizens in the region to build trust. Modi also noted the positive changes in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh since the abrogation.
