A day after joining the Congress party, YS Sharmila, Congress leader and sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy, expressed her readiness to assume any responsibility assigned to her by the party’s high command. After meeting Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge in the national capital, Sharmila spoke to reporters, stating, “The party is thinking of giving me some responsibilities on which we had a discussion, and I said I’m ready to take any responsibility given to me.”
On Thursday, YS Sharmila merged her party, YSR Telangana Party, into the Congress and was officially inducted into the party by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders.
Sharmila, daughter of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, highlighted the pleasure of the merger, emphasizing her father’s lifelong dedication to the Congress. She affirmed her decision to join the Congress, citing it as the true and largest secular party in India, consistently upholding the country’s culture by serving all sections and unifying the people.
Expressing anguish over recent events in Manipur, Sharmila asserted the importance of the Congress being in power to prevent such incidents. She revealed her father’s dream of seeing Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister and expressed her happiness in contributing to that vision. Sharmila pledged loyalty, integrity, and diligence in any role assigned by the Congress.
Welcoming Sharmila into the party, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated, “Our efforts to rebuild the party shall continue, and we will re-establish the long-cherished vision of ‘Indiramma Rajyam’ and ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ for social justice, welfare, and development for all.” Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed dedication to working for the progress of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and the entire country together.
